Over the past year I’ve fallen down a lot on my blog reading. I’m trying to get back to it, and there’s something relaxing about giving yourself 30 minutes or even an hour, to just sit and read and not feel guilty about it.
There are 3 blogs that whenever I do pop over to them, I am consistently fed good stuff, fascinating stuff. These 3 people also happen to be my friends, and I became friends with them before realizing how popular they are as bloggers, which intimidates me. But given the quality of their blogs, it’s easy to see why they have so many followers. All 3 of them also always have really great ‘What I’m Into’ posts at the end of the month.
Read A Blog
Cara is running the greatest series – De(tales) – that are great snapshots into people’s lives.
I think my favorite posts are Anne’s ‘What I’m Into’ posts, but she’s also started a ‘Links I Love’ weekly round-up and it’s always interesting and fun to read. But basically, every post is great. I don’t know how she does it.
Mary Beth also does a great round-up that I love reading – Five [Awesome] Things I Read this week – It’s a small enough number to feel manageable to read, and MB reads great stuff, so it’s always a well-curated list.
She is also doing the #Write31Days project, about food and being in her kitchen. I desperately need to work on my cooking habits and making better food, so I’m really excited to read her posts.
Speaking of food and cooking – look at this post by Anne, about cookbooks, and all the comments recommending more. I need to sit with this post for a couple of hours to take notes.
Read A Magazine
And on a related note – one of my favorite things to do is go to Barnes and Noble to sit and read magazines. Now that we’ve moved to a much larger metro areat, the magazine section is huge! I’m in heaven.
One of my favorite ones is a new-to-America magazine. Flow Magazine is printed in the Netherlands, and they’ve started publishing in English too, and it’s absolutely gorgeous.
In the latest issue they have an article about cooking – an interview with Michael Pollan about his newest book, Cooked.
“Few of us do work that engages us with the material world any more. Food is a great way to reconnect to the senses, especially when you make it yourself.” – MP
One of my favorite recipes is this one, from Rachael Ray – Fancy Sweet Sausage-and-Apple Hash with Calvados
I use frozen cubed hashbrowns instead of potatoes, and I leave out the pepper, onion, and eggs. And it is absolutely one of the best things I’ve ever eaten.
